How I Built This Site To Attract 1000 Visitors a Month (For the First Time!)

Nearly all websites set a goal to generate traffic to their site. This site is no different. Attracting visitors allows me to spread the message to a large enough audience to matter. It also helps this site generate income, which is never a bad thing.

So I set out a series of benchmarks for this site to get to while building the amount of visitors this site receives. First was 100 total, then 10 a day, then twenty.

Then I set a large goal: 1000 visitors in a month.

For a relatively new site this is a number that signifies a growing online presence. 1000 visitors a month affirms that your message is being received and that your site is healthy, growing.

I wanted to get to this number. Now that I have, I realize that any site that utilizes these steps will see a dramatic jump in the traffic it receives.

Here is how I built this site to attract 1000 visitors a month.

1: I focused on producing content

This should be obvious, but I cannot stress enough the importance of frequently releasing content on your site. When I went from 2-3 posts per week to 5-7 per week, the traffic to my site more than tripled. Visitors like to see that you are producing new content more often, and are more likely to subscribe and/or return to an active website.

After I had reached 1000 visitors a month, I stepped away from my website for a period of time to see  how my traffic would respond to less content being posted. Sure enough, my daily traffic dropped from 150-200 visitors a day to less than 20.

If you are looking to drive traffic to your site, constant, quality content is king.

2: I wrote an incentive eBook

I wanted to give my readers something back for visiting and subscribing to my site, so I wrote an eBook that could be given to my subscribers for free. It is a relatively small bit of content (13 pages), and only took me a half day to create, but it has greatly increased the number of subscribers I have.

The more subscribers I have, the more people return to this site when I post new content.

If you would like to see the eBook I created for this purpose, you can subscribe for your free copy.

3: I joined Triberr

Triberr is a great blogging tool for those at any level of traffic. As long as you have a Twitter, Facebook, or Linkedin account you can join and begin having your content shared by others.

Basically, it works like this:

You join Triberr and connect with bloggers who post content related to yours. Whenever you post a new blog post, it is presented to all those whom you are connected to and they are given the choice to share it on their social networks.  You are encouraged to do the same for their posts.

This could potentially lead to a new blogger being given a reach of millions. The expanded social presence drives traffic to your blog and increases your search ranking.  If you do not have Triberr and are looking to drive more traffic to your site, it is worth checking out.

4: I installed nRelate

Any ‘related posts’ and ‘top posts’ plugin will work for this purpose, but I gave my readers an easy path to continue browsing my site by showing posts that are related to their needs. I chose nRelate because, as I have discussed before, I found it was easy to monetize nRelate.

Creating more back links throughout your site slightly increases its standing in search rankings, which will drive more traffic to your site. It also encourages readers to subscribe to your site by showing them that your site is active and relevant to their needs.

So there is it, the actions I took to grow to a site that attracts 1000 visitors a month. These things are not difficult to do, and do not require a tedious effort.

I am anticipating that my next goal, 100 visitors per day, will require a slightly greater effort to achieve. Once I have averaged 100 visitors per day for a 30 day period, I will write another post detailing the changes I have made in order to get to that mark.
